The vibrant red fridge and coffee machine pay tribute to the brand’s livery that won the 1970 Le Mans race. Every limited-edition appliance showcases distinct Porsche colors and features. Consider the anxiety a wealthy Porsche owner might experience when a visitor arrives, only to discover that their partner has taken the car out for errands. There’s a sense of pride associated with that emblem, and the absence of the car can feel like a part of their identity has vanished from the driveway. However, there’s a way to appreciate the owner's dedication to the brand, exemplified by the new SMEG refrigerator, an accessory reminiscent of the classic air-cooled Porsches now available for purchase. It’s noteworthy that although this partnership may not have been anticipated, it is not without precedent. Porsche has collaborated with various non-automotive brands such as La Marzocco, Norrøna, and ST. ALi. In fact, Porsche Design markets its own kitchen knives and espresso cups, one of which I often use (not that you care, but I thought I’d mention it). Nonetheless, this new collaboration stands out. This is the first instance of Porsche extending its reach into kitchenware to such a degree, although it would not be surprising if these items were more commonly found in upscale personal garages than in shared home kitchens. What Does the Collection Include? The Porsche x SMEG collection features the brand's retro-inspired FAB28 fridge, a bean-to-cup coffee machine (apologies to espresso aficionados, as it doesn’t make espresso), a kettle, a toaster, and a blender, all adorned in Porsche's colors and detailing. Stefan Büscher, CEO of Porsche Lifestyle Group, stated that the partnership highlights their mutual values of precision and passion: “To create objects that serve a function while also resonating emotionally.” Vittorio Bertazzoni, Chairman of SMEG, adds that this collaboration “challenges the traditional perception of kitchen appliances.” The centerpiece is named the Fridge 917 Salzburg, painted in the same eye-catching red-and-white scheme as the 917 KH, which secured Porsche’s first overall victory at Le Mans in 1970. Each unit includes a plaque indicating it is one of 1970 pieces produced globally, featuring matte black handles and the iconic “23” racing number displayed on its door. A matching coffee machine bears the same design elements. Additionally, buyers have the option to choose refrigerators in Carrara White Metallic and Shade Green Metallic, each featuring black accents and a Porsche stripe to signify its inspiration.
