      Now residents of Tatarstan can pay for train travel using geolocation

      Tatarstan has become the first Russian region to introduce new methods of paying for suburban train travel using passenger geolocation.

      This was announced to journalists by Artem Kireev, head of the technical department of the suburban passenger company "Sodruzhestvo." Specifically, a new mobile application called "ProTransport+" has been launched in Tatarstan. By using this application, citizens can pay for train rides based on their geolocation. This system is fundamentally new for our country, and the republic has essentially become the first region to implement such a payment approach.

      Currently, this payment system is deployed on the route connecting Kazan with the airport: Kazan – Airport – Kazan.

      As explained by "Sodruzhestvo," payment is made via smartphone. To operate the application successfully, users need to link a bank card and allow the system to use Bluetooth. The app can automatically determine the user’s location thanks to special equipment installed at stations. An important point is that the system works autonomously and does not depend on internet access.

      After confirming the payment, a QR code will appear on the smartphone screen, which the passenger can use to pass through the fare gate. The user then needs to finish the trip in the app and receive a ticket with a barcode. The fare will be automatically deducted from the linked bank card.

      It is worth noting that, according to AO "Sodruzhestvo," residents of Tatarstan are increasingly using digital services to purchase railway tickets.
