The Kazan authorities have decided to focus intensively on expanding the municipal parking. The total number of paid parking spaces is planned to exceed 14,100.
The city executive committee's resolution on this issue has been sent for anti-corruption review. Currently, the number of parking spaces in Kazan's municipal parking is 12,800. Over eight hundred new spaces are planned to be created through the opening of parking lots on 15 sites along public roads of local significance.
Regarding costs, most of the new parking spaces will cost users 30 rubles per hour. The exceptions are the Kremlin Embankment and Sanychina Lane, where drivers will be charged 50 rubles per hour.
The number of available paid spaces is also expected to increase through the expansion of existing municipal parking. According to Kazan's executive committee, about one hundred thousand drivers use the municipal parking daily. Over the past ten years, more than 19 million parking sessions have been registered.
As emphasized by Ildar Shakirov, deputy head of Kazan's executive committee, municipal parking lots are one of the tools to curb the growing level of car ownership. Over two decades, the number of cars in Kazan has tripled, he previously noted.
Shakirov reminded that the development of municipal parking began in 2015 as part of measures to combat traffic jams in the center of Kazan. The results were quick — the so-called wandering car traffic decreased, and drivers spent less time searching for a parking spot.
It should be added that parking in Kazan is paid only on weekdays from 8:00 to 19:00.
