      Almost 11 years spent on the road. Our hero has seen a lot and found himself in various situations, but despite the hardships he is warmed by one thought — family is always waiting at home. He is a long-haul trucker. And his wife is a correspondent for YVT-24. Tomorrow, August 30, Oleg Bauer will celebrate his professional holiday. Today he will tell our channel and viewers about his workdays.

      On the mobile footage there is an unloading, which means the road home may be coming soon. One of the reasons for rejoicing for those who celebrate their professional holiday on August 30 is Truckers’ Day. The hero of the story — the husband of YVT-24 correspondent Elena Bauer — Oleg has been working in this field for ten years.

      Many years ago a friend suggested he try this profession, and since then Oleg has always been “on the road.” Trips can last from two months to six months.

      “I always wanted to get home as soon as possible, I would arrange with my partners to be present at births. I would pick up the children. You spend your whole life in the cab: you set off and the whole road is ahead,” says driver-expediter Oleg Bauer.

      The work is not easy, but it's interesting, Oleg says. Once he took his older son on a short trip. Nine-year-old Yura spent a few days on the road with his father.

      “It went light, even though we were stopped a little, it went well, and he was interested, he got a ton of emotions.”

      Drivers also get emotions — not always good ones. The road does not forgive mistakes. During trips they witness terrible accidents, and at first it frightens them.

      “At first it does, but then it becomes routine, like everyday life. In a day there can be several serious, complicated accidents; sometimes there’s a week with nothing, everything’s fine, but then it’s just ordinary. There are always messaging groups, there are many of us there, so to speak, so we don’t go crazy while driving — constant communication: voice messages,” Oleg Bauer says.

      He has to communicate via messages in messengers with his family as well. At home Oleg is awaited by his family — his wife, son and daughter. Longing for loved ones is perhaps the biggest downside.

      “My absence from home. Being far from the family. That’s basically it. I’m never home,” says Oleg Bauer.

      In 10 years our hero has changed four big rigs. Experience comes on the job — the main thing is to know the basics.

      “The basics are taught in driving school, that is how to park, how to pull into a garage. Everything else comes with experience, an eye for distances, don’t rush. If you’re unsure — get out, look, continue the maneuver, ask someone, there’s no shame in that,” Oleg says.

      August 30 is the day drivers-expediters, or commonly truckers, celebrate their professional holiday. But for them there are reasons to congratulate each other not only at the end of summer.

      “I knew about it, I don’t approve of it, there is a good holiday — Motor Transport Day, which is celebrated on the last Sunday of October, I prefer that one. Health and good luck on the roads, may you be awaited at home and may everything be well,” shares driver-expediter Oleg Bauer.
