The Russian Ministry of Labor has informed working parents of the possibility to spend the Day of Knowledge with their children by officially arranging a day off. According to the ministry, there are two legal options that must be agreed in advance with management.
The first method involves using one day from the annual paid vacation. If that day was not previously included in the approved schedule, the employee should negotiate with the employer to make changes.
The second option is to take an unpaid day off, citing family circumstances. The Ministry of Labor emphasizes that for certain categories of employees, such as people with disabilities or spouses of servicemen, the administration may not refuse to grant unpaid leave. This now also applies to those who have children.
Thus, parents have every chance to attend the ceremonial school assembly and support their child at the start of the school year without violating labor rules. It is better to discuss this matter with one’s superiors in advance.
This allows one to legally be relieved of work duties and make the first autumn day a truly family celebration.
