      The project to reconstruct the building of the factory partnership “Krestovnikov Brothers” became the leader of the 29th national independent architectural ranking “Golden Capital.” Another Kazan project — a 340-place kindergarten on Novaya Portovaya — was awarded the super-finalist diploma in the “Social Infrastructure Object” category. Both were created by the well-known Moscow architect Ruben Arakelyan and the architectural bureau WALL on commission from the SMU-88 group of companies.

      “Reconstructing the Krestovnikov Brothers’ factory is a project that is not only landmark but also truly complex. The way Ruben Arakelyan handled this task should be included in textbooks as a quintessential example of how to revive 19th-century monuments for life in the first half of the 21st century. The project has already received many federal awards and, I’m sure, will receive many more. And in the near future it will be appreciated by both residents and visitors of the city when the concept is brought to life,” said Nail Galeev, CEO of the SMU-88 group of companies.

      It should be recalled that the reconstruction of the building of the factory partnership “Krestovnikov Brothers” envisages a “building within a building” concept. This approach will preserve the historical appearance of the structure, while the roof of the inner part is planned to be made of glass. The project provides for the appearance of indoor and outdoor museums, a spa, small cafés and restaurants, boutiques, and apartments.

      The spatial concept of the kindergarten on Novaya Portovaya represents the image of a micro-village without resorting to “childish” colors or forms. The architects proposed a self-contained structure with a green courtyard in the center, wooden house-cells and a gallery instead of a fence. Separate volumes will house group, sports and creative zones, while administrative, medical and technical rooms will be located around the perimeter.
