The Union of Journalists of Tatarstan expressed condolences on the death of Vladimir Kozhevnikov.
On September 5, at the age of 69, Vladimir Kozhevnikov, chairman of the Leninogorsk branch of the Union of Journalists of the Republic of Tatarstan, founder and editor-in-chief of the Yarmarka publishing house, and an honored worker of the press and mass communications of the Republic of Tatarstan, passed away.
In memory of Vladimir Kozhevnikov
Vladimir Filippovich enrolled in the journalism department of Kazan University after graduating from a physical education technical school, serving in the army and studying at a workers’ faculty (rabfak). He never regretted his choice. For more than three decades V.F. Kozhevnikov developed the district press and publishing business in the Leninogorsk district, climbed every rung of the journalistic career ladder, and worked as a correspondent and photographer. He always believed that professionalism does not depend on one’s place of residence.
Vladimir Filippovich was a pioneer of many initiatives in the publishing business. In 1997 he began publishing the business information newspaper Yarmarka to move away from old forms and Soviet clichés and to create a means of communication for small and medium-sized businesses. Ten years later the advertising paper Koshelek appeared, a personnel agency and the business center Yarmarka Business started operating, and a chain of stores "Bookshop" opened.
Kozhevnikov did not chase sensations; he always published editions that were useful and needed by readers. Thanks to his ideas, a well-thought-out development strategy, his ability to build a team, and a rare combination of business acumen and journalistic talent, the Yarmarka Publishing House did not merely survive in a competitive market. Today it is a diversified enterprise that publishes newspapers, books and printed products at the most modern technological level.
V.F. Kozhevnikov did a great deal to tell about the economic and cultural achievements of Leninogorsk — the cradle of Tatarstan oil — and of the entire southeast of the republic. The excellently produced books of the Yarmarka Publishing House about the native land and its famous fellow countrymen are always in demand among the city’s residents and visitors. In addition, Vladimir Filippovich developed remarkable public initiatives: projects dedicated to people with physical disabilities and to the history of the city in the memories of long-time residents. He was actively involved in charity and did much in his role as a deputy of the Leninogorsk City Council.
V.F. Kozhevnikov was named "Philanthropist of the Year" and was a laureate of the national prize "Civic Initiative", as well as the winner of the prestigious journalism contest Bällür Kaläm – Crystal Pen in the category "Media Manager."
Vladimir Filippovich, a man of striking life energy, had many new ideas and plans. But, alas, they were not destined to come true.
The death of Vladimir Kozhevnikov is an irreparable and incalculable loss for the journalistic community of Tatarstan. We express our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones…
