Ambassador of Slovakia Peter Priputen: "History must be remembered and respected."
The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Russia, Peter Priputen, visited the Plenipotentiary Representation of the Republic of Tatarstan in the Russian Federation. He was met by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan — the Plenipotentiary Representative of Tatarstan in the Russian Federation, Ravil Akhmetshin. Also taking part in the meeting from the Slovak side were Deputy Ambassador Karol Smetana and Slovakia’s Trade Representative Andrej Eshtvanik.
"We would be glad if relations between Slovakia and Russia develop as they did before," emphasized Peter Priputen. He recalled that Prime Minister Robert Fico recently stated that Slovakia takes a constructive approach to relations with Russia and is interested in their restart.
A Slovak delegation headed by the Chairman of the Government of the country visited Moscow for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. Russian President V. V. Putin then personally thanked Robert Fico for his careful treatment of the monuments and graves of Soviet soldiers who fell fighting the fascist invaders on Slovak soil.
"During World War II more than 60,000 soldiers of the Red Army were killed in combat against the Nazis in Czechoslovakia, including Tatars. We greatly value the role of Russia/the USSR in liberating our country from the fascist forces. We must not forget the past. History must be known, remembered and respected," Ambassador Peter Priputen said at the meeting.
Ravil Akhmetshin also emphasized that Tatarstan would welcome an expansion of cooperation with Slovakia; there are many areas for joint projects and initiatives.
The Slovak Republic has been one of Tatarstan’s important foreign partners. Tatarstan companies such as Tatneft, KAMAZ, Nizhnekamskneftekhim and others have experience cooperating with it.
In 2019 a business forum "Tatarstan – Slovakia" took place in Bratislava, attended by a delegation from the republic headed by Rustam Minnikhanov.
"The republic is interested in resuming and expanding cooperation. We will be glad to see you at international forums and exhibitions held in Tatarstan, and to provide a more detailed introduction to our region," invited Ravil Kalimullovich the Ambassador to Tatarstan.
During the meeting, the Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of Tatarstan for the coordination of international and economic relations, Fannur Garifullin, presented to the guests the economic and investment potential of the Republic of Tatarstan, and spoke about major industrial enterprises and the republic’s innovation policy — special economic zones, technoparks and industrial sites.
