      On September 14, scheduled maintenance will begin at the Kazanorgsintez plant. Residents of Kazan were warned that on those days the plant's flares will burn more brightly than usual.

      According to the plant's specialists, increased flames on the first and last days of the maintenance are a normal technological process and do not pose any threat to the surrounding area.

      A round-the-clock flare system control service operates at the plant. Marat Galkiev, an operator with almost 20 years of experience, said that the supply of air and steam to the flare tips is strictly regulated to ensure complete combustion of gases. Only water and carbon dioxide are released into the atmosphere.

      "The flares are controlled remotely, and there is video surveillance of the operation of each flare tip. Sometimes a flare burns brighter than usual — this happens during the shutdown of the plant for maintenance or before its start-up," Galkiev explained.
