A folklore and ethnographic expedition from Kazan visited the villages of the Zainsky District.

      Specialists from the Ya. E. Emelyanov Cultural Center collected unique ethnographic materials.

      On September 9 the Svetloozersky House of Culture was visited by guests from the Ya. E. Emelyanov Cultural Center: folklore specialist Liana Samoilova, ethnographer and expert on traditional folk costume Yuliya Akhmetzyanova, and photographer and videographer Ildar Khafizov. The aim of the folklore-ethnographic expedition was to collect unique materials on ethnography, decorative and applied arts, and the traditional costume of the Kryashens of the Zainsky District.

      Valuable experts were the local keepers of traditions — Angelina Petrovna Vavilova, Polina Ivanovna Shuguleva, and Raisa Ivanovna Alekseeva. They gave the researchers a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the past, telling in detail about the features of the Kryashen women’s costume, jewelry, and traditional embroidery.

      Particularly moving was Angelina Petrovna’s story about a dress sewn in the 1920s for Anastasia Nikiforovna Vavilova, who was born back in the 19th century — in 1894. Thus, the dress is more than a hundred years old, and every stitch, every thread faded by time preserves its silent story.

      The project leader tried on another rarity with particular feeling — the dress of Anastasia Maksimovna Antipova, born in 1932. And the painstaking work to preserve the historical heritage continued with taking measurements from the aprons of Matrena Sergeevna Isakova. These measurements will help recreate details of the Kryashen women’s costume, preserving their exact cut for future generations.

      Specialists from the Ya. E. Emelyanov Cultural Center also visited the Sarsaz-Bagryazhsky House of Culture, whose staff presented unique Kryashen costumes preserved in the rural settlement.
