      An emergency report was received by the engineering and technical unit of OMON “Typhoon” of the Rosgvardiya Directorate for the Republic of Tatarstan on September 16 at about 14:45. Workers at one of the large enterprises in the city of Naberezhnye Chelny found a suspicious object.

      Upon checking the information, it turned out that construction work was being carried out on the enterprise’s premises. While preparing to lay asphalt, workers were sorting delivered crushed stone, and in one of the loads they found an object that outwardly resembled an artillery shell.

      OMON Rosgvardiya sapper specialists who arrived on site conducted a thorough inspection of the find. Experts confirmed that the discovered object was indeed a 76 mm artillery shell. According to preliminary data, the munition dates back to the Civil War period. The shell showed significant signs of corrosion and characteristic marks of having exited a gun barrel.

      Due to the critical condition of the munition, transporting it over a long distance was impossible. Taking into account the features of the enterprise’s territory where the find was discovered, specialists decided to destroy the shell on site. The following safety measures were taken: the munition was moved to a specially prepared site, a pit 2.5–3 meters deep was dug using an excavator, and the detonation was carried out after the pit was backfilled with soil.

      The operation to neutralize the dangerous munition was successful and fully in line with safety requirements.
