In Bugulma, taxi drivers are increasingly being involved in fraudulent schemes.

      Law enforcement agencies are investigating a new case of fraud involving a taxi driver, as a result of which the victim lost a significant sum of money. Over the course of a week, a group of offenders stole 574,590 rubles from a city resident. The criminals used a complex deception scheme. A man called the victim, claiming to be an employee of a "telephone company" and reporting a change of landline number. To verify the information he asked her to dictate her passport details. The woman trusted him and complied.

      A few days later she received another call. This time the man presented himself as an officer of the military investigative department and reported a data leak. He said that a transfer had been made from her name to an unfriendly country, and for safety all cash needed to be withdrawn from her bank account.

      The woman followed all the caller's instructions and withdrew the money at the bank.

      To complete the scheme, a taxi driver agreed to deliver a package with the money to the village of Osinovo near Kazan. The woman, under constant control by the scammers, handed the driver a package of money wrapped in household items.

      After the taxi driver left with the money, contact with the victim was lost. Realizing what had happened, the woman contacted law enforcement.

      As a result of operational-search activities, the taxi driver was detained. During questioning he refused to give testimony.

      A criminal case has been opened under Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (large-scale fraud). The investigation continues; all circumstances of the incident and those involved are being established.
