      Moscow explained its refusal to participate in the CTBT conference by disagreement with accusations against the DPRK and the position of the United States

      Russia will not join documents directed against the DPRK and will not take part in the Conference on Promoting the Entry into Force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). This was reported by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

      The Foreign Ministry noted that the conference’s final document does not reflect Russia’s position. Moscow cannot support accusations against its ally — North Korea. The ministry recalled the mutual assistance between Russia and the DPRK.

      “In this regard, we do not consider it possible to join any anti-Korean statements and documents. Moreover, we note that such politically motivated attacks are not in line with the aims and objectives of the conference,” the Foreign Ministry said.

      The Russian side believes that the main reason the CTBT has not entered into force is the position of the United States. The Foreign Ministry emphasized that Washington has not ratified the agreement, and it is wrong to blame the DPRK for the treaty’s failure to enter into force.
