Residents of Naberezhnye Chelny fell victim to scammers who stole millions from them under the pretext of "saving" their money.

      Three residents of Naberezhnye Chelny fell victim to scammers, including two elderly people aged 87 and 88. The total damage, according to preliminary data, ranges from 275 thousand to 3.5 million rubles.

      In all cases the scheme was the same. Unknown callers phoned the victims, convincing them that their savings were in danger and that an urgent operation to "save" them was required. Despite the oddness of the "procedure," the residents of Chelny agreed to the fraudsters' terms.

      At the time specified by the criminals, each victim, following instructions, took their savings in a bag and handed them to couriers near their own home or on a nearby playground, as was the case with a 43-year-old man. After that, contact with the "saviors" of the money was cut off. Realizing they had been deceived, the victims turned to the police.

      At the request of the victims, criminal cases have been opened under Article 159, Parts 3 and 4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Fraud committed on a large and especially large scale). It has been established that the victims' money was transferred to Kazan via taxi drivers.

      The police urge taxi drivers and courier service representatives not to transport or transfer money to bank accounts. By acting on the instructions of scammers, you become accomplices to crimes. When receiving such orders, show an active civic position: ask pensioners why they are handing you money. If the money is intended for a relative in trouble, ask to contact the relative and make sure they are all right.
