The Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan warns Tatarstan residents about scammers in online schools.

      The Ministry of Education and Science of Tatarstan has appealed to the republic’s residents with recommendations for safely choosing online schools and entering into contracts for paid training.

      Over the past six months, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan has received more than ten complaints from citizens about the activities of various online schools. According to the ministry, most cases are linked to violations similar to those previously uncovered in the work of the scandal-ridden Urban University. The bulk of complaints concern difficulties in terminating contracts for paid educational services and problems with refunding money. Staff of such organizations demonstrate a high level of preparation for interacting with potential clients. They actively use various psychological techniques, including persuasion methods, exerting pressure, avoiding direct answers to questions, and encouraging quick decision-making.

      In connection with the increased incidence of fraud, the ministry strongly recommends that citizens exercise heightened caution when choosing educational programs. Specialists advise critically evaluating attractive websites of online schools and their social media pages, and not taking advertising promises as absolute truth.

      Among the most common methods used by fraudulent organizations to attract clients are offers of free training under a government grant, free education for certain categories of citizens including participants in the special military operation, free trial periods, guarantees of full refunds if the course does not meet expectations, preferential loans at low interest rates, interest-free installments through partner banks, time-limited discounts, promises of state-standard documents, the possibility of earning money during training, and guarantees of subsequent employment.

      The Ministry of Education and Science of Tatarstan draws special attention to the fact that positive online reviews may be paid for. Before paying for training, it is necessary to thoroughly study information about the chosen educational organization, read reviews on independent platforms, consult relatives or specialists, ask representatives of the training center specific questions about the training program, and study in detail all clauses of the contract to be concluded.
