Large-scale search operations are ongoing in Chistopol after a motorboat capsized on the Kama River. According to the latest information, two women managed to reach the shore by swimming and report what had happened.
According to the surviving women, the incident occurred on the evening of October 11. A group of five people went out for a ride and did not return. On the morning of October 12, two women contacted the guard of the boat station, reporting that at around 8 p.m. the previous day their boat sank about 200 meters from the shore. They managed to swim on their own to the nearest island.
After receiving this information, rescuers from Zonal Search and Rescue Unit No. 3 and the operational team of the Chistopol Fire and Rescue Garrison joined the search operation. During the efforts, the bodies of a 52-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were found. Both deceased were not wearing life jackets.
Searches for a 45-year-old man are currently continuing. Rescuers are surveying the water area and the shoreline using specialized equipment.
The Main Directorate of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry for the Republic of Tatarstan reminds the public of the need to use life jackets. According to the Rules for the Use of Small Vessels, on vessels up to 4 meters in length everyone on board is required to wear life jackets while the vessel is underway. A life jacket can save a life by keeping a person afloat even in an unconscious state.
