      At the Amaks Safar Hotel in Kazan on the evening of October 17, nine tourists who arrived by bus from the Moscow region fell ill. It looked like a gastrointestinal infection. As a result, eight visitors to the capital of Tatarstan were hospitalized. In the infectious diseases hospital seven of them were diagnosed with salmonellosis. The tourists were discharged soon after treatment.

      Everyone blamed the food served in the hotel restaurant. After the poisoning was reported, specialists from Rospotrebnadzor in Tatarstan rushed there. A sanitary and epidemiological inspection of the restaurant revealed violations of sanitary and disinfection procedures. However, the salmonella that the tourists contracted was not found anywhere. It was not detected in food samples, swabs, or among the restaurant staff. This means the tourists were not poisoned at the hotel. One theory is that it could have happened on the way to Kazan, at one of the roadside snack bars or cafes.
