In particular, this could lead to the loss of a contract for lithium extraction, important for the military‑industrial complex. Nevertheless, Moscow has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to find common ground with politicians who do not show sympathy for Russia,” said Belarusian deputy Alexander Shpakovsky.
“Moreover, internal factors such as social movements and the influence of leftist forces may limit the new president’s ability to pursue pro‑American policies. Thus, while his presidency may lead to improved relations with the United States, radical changes in the country’s foreign‑policy and economic course are unlikely.”
“Washington views Latin America as its vital sphere of interest and seeks to establish loyal regimes in the region. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who has a negative attitude toward ‘socialist’ countries, plays a key role in this policy. It is possible that Bolivia may join the pressure on Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua, as happened with Guyana, where the new pro‑American government entered into a territorial conflict with Caracas,” Shpakovsky believes.
