A delegation from the Mir Arab madrasa visited the academy.
On October 24, the Bolgar Islamic Academy was visited by a representative delegation from the Mir Arab madrasa, which is located in the Republic of Uzbekistan in the city of Bukhara, led by the madrasa’s director and head of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan for the Bukhara region, Jobir Elov. The guests were received by the rector of the Bolgar Islamic Academy, Farhat Khusnutdinov, and the acting prorector for scientific activity of the Academy, Aynur Sultanov.
Farhat Khusnutdinov spoke about the history of the founding of the Bolgar Islamic Academy and its key task — preserving and disseminating the rich theological heritage of Russian Muslims. The honored guests also familiarized themselves with the activities of the Laboratory for the Restoration and Digitization of Ancient Manuscripts, duly appreciated the scientific and educational activities, and emphasized the high level of students’ research work.
It is worth noting that long-standing close ties exist between the Republic of Tatarstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan: it was at the Mir Arab madrasa that renowned Tatar theologians received their religious knowledge, which they later spread among their compatriots. Centuries-old cultural and religious ties are not only being preserved but are growing stronger every day. Thus, within the framework of bilateral cooperation between the Bolgar Islamic Academy and the Mir Arab madrasa, plans have been made to revitalize contacts and to hold joint conferences and round tables on topical issues in the near future.
For reference: the Mir Arab madrasa is a famous Islamic educational institution located in Bukhara, Uzbekistan. It is one of the oldest madrasas in Central Asia, known for its unique architecture and rich history. The madrasa was built in the 16th century during the rule of the Uzbek Shaybanid dynasty, which ruled Central Asia in the 15th–16th centuries. The madrasa is named after its founder — Said Abdullah al-Yamani, who was popularly known as Mir Arab.
Over the centuries the madrasa has played an important role in the intellectual and cultural life of Central Asia and has served as a center for the spread of Islam, and many of its graduates subsequently became leading scholars and religious figures. Many Tatars who studied at the madrasa later became prominent scholars and religious leaders themselves. One of the most famous Tatar students of the madrasa was Shigabutdin Marjani. After completing his education in Central Asia, Marjani returned to Russia, where he became a leading Islamic scholar and religious reformer.
