      A court in Kazan handed down a verdict in the criminal case of a 33-year-old resident of the Aktanysh district. The man was found guilty of a fatal traffic accident, the Prosecutor's Office of Tatarstan reports.

      "The defendant fully admitted his guilt and expressed remorse. As punishment he was sentenced to 1.5 years' imprisonment in a colony-settlement, and was also deprived of the right to engage in anything related to vehicle operation for two years. This court decision has not yet come into force," the supervisory authority said.

      As established, at the end of September last year the man, while behind the wheel of a VAZ-21103, was reversing on the grounds of the Arsk cemetery in Kazan. During this maneuver he did not see an 89-year-old pensioner and ran her over. The elderly woman, with various injuries, was hospitalized from the scene. Unfortunately, she died in the hospital some time later.
