      Draft bills have been prepared in Russia to increase liability for illegal mining. The initiative was developed by State Duma Energy Committee Chairman Nikolay Shulginov and the presidential envoy to the North Caucasian Federal District Yuri Chaika, TASS reports.

      The documents provide for administrative liability for failure to comply with mining requirements. In addition, it is planned to introduce criminal punishment for stealing electricity for the purpose of cryptocurrency mining — this offense is proposed to be considered an aggravating circumstance.

      Shulginov noted that in a number of regions where electricity tariffs are low, such as Tatarstan, Irkutsk Region and Khakassia, mining equipment is increasingly being installed in private homes, basements and garages.
