The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade announced a postponement of the introduction of the new rules for calculating the vehicle recycling fee until December 1, 2025. These changes provide for a sharp increase in payments for powerful vehicles, especially those imported by individuals for personal use, RBC reported. According to the draft prepared by the ministry, the basic recycling fee rate will be formed based on the type and displacement of the engine, and its power will affect a progressive scale of coefficients. For individuals importing cars for personal use, preferential coefficients will remain for cars with up to 160 horsepower: 3.4 thousand rubles for a new car and 5.2 thousand rubles for a car older than three years. However, cars with engine power from 160 hp will fall under commercial tariffs, which will lead to a multiple increase in payments. For example, the recycling fee for a Kia Sorento (194 hp) will rise from 3.4 thousand to 1.9 million rubles (by 57,841%). For the BMW X5 (490 hp) the tax will increase by 81,194% — to 2.7 million rubles.
