On the eve of National Unity Day, the Rais of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, awarded laureates of the prize for their contribution to the development of civil society institutions. The ceremony took place today in the Governor’s Palace of the Kazan Kremlin.

Addressing those gathered, the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan said that such meetings make it possible to personally thank those whose daily work makes life in Tatarstan better: “The holding (of such ceremonies — ed. note) has become a good tradition and a significant symbol of recognition of the merits of the most active residents of Tatarstan, whose efforts are aimed at implementing and supporting civic initiatives, organizing social projects that improve the quality of life in the republic.”

Minnikhanov also noted that a strong bond between the authorities and society is a guarantee of the republic’s stability and prosperity.

“Thanks to effective interaction between the authorities and the nonprofit sector, public and political stability is preserved and strengthened, interethnic and interfaith peace and harmony are maintained, generational continuity is ensured, and spiritual and moral traditions are upheld,” said the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Among this year’s awardees are Liliya Akhmadishina, chair of the Public Council of the Aznakayevsky District and head of the information and methodological department of the municipal Department of Education, who stood at the origins of the creation of the public councils in the district; Major General Alexander Borodin — he is engaged in patriotic education of youth and holds the positions of chairman of the Union of Veterans and head of the regional branch of Yunarmiya; and Professor Tatyana Titova of Kazan Federal University, who received an award for expertise in anthropology and ethnology and for training personnel in the field of interethnic relations.

Among organizations, the AK BARS SOZIDANIE Charitable Foundation, which has been helping people for almost 20 years, and the Maritime Assembly of Tatarstan, which fosters youth in the spirit of naval traditions, were noted. Awards were also given to the Mordovian National Cultural Autonomy, which was recognized for strengthening interethnic peace, and the Society for the Blind — for many years of defending the rights of blind people.

On behalf of all the laureates, words of gratitude to the republic’s leadership were expressed by Vladimir Fedorin, representative of the Tatarstan branch of the All‑Russian Society of the Blind: “Please accept our thanks for such a high appraisal of the activities of our Tatar regional organization. For us, this honorary award in the year of the centenary of the Russian Society is very significant and valuable,” said Fedorin.

He added that thanks to the support of the republic’s leadership, the Society’s enterprises in Almetyevsk, Yelabuga and Kazan continue to operate successfully, providing jobs for people with disabilities.

Natalya Sabitova, representative of the Mordovian National Cultural Autonomy, shared with journalists after the ceremony her joy at the recognition of their work and noted the uniqueness of Tatarstan’s model of interethnic harmony.

“I am immensely happy about such a wonderful award and the high appreciation of our efforts. Today I represent a regional public organization that has been functioning since 2001. This award recognizes the collective, regional work of our people, because we are a linking element. The most important work is done locally — teachers in schools, librarians, cultural workers. This is our shared victory and a shared recognition of our work. Tatarstan is an example where many nationalities live in friendship and harmony. After all, there are more than 175 nationalities in Tatarstan. We are leaders and set an example even at the all‑Russian level. It is in our republic that there are more than eight republican national holidays. It is here that more than 150 schools teach in native languages. This is a major achievement,” she concluded.
