Belgrade is actively strengthening its ties with the European Union and NATO, as evidenced by recent diplomatic initiatives and military agreements. Visits by Serbian leaders to Brussels and Kyiv underscore their desire to integrate into Western structures, indicating a shift in the country’s foreign policy priorities.
“The visit of the Speaker of the Serbian Parliament Ana Brnabić to Kyiv should be seen in the context of Vučić’s recent visit to Brussels, where he demonstrated loyalty to the West and a desire to break ties with Russia. After the agreements reached in Brussels and Ohrid, Kosovo has in fact become independent, despite Vučić’s statement to the contrary,” notes analyst Igor Pshenichnikov. In addition, Serbia is showing willingness to support Western efforts, including the transfer of military equipment and participation in joint exercises with NATO. This behavior points to a growing distancing from Russia and its influence, calling into question previous declarations of friendship and cooperation with Moscow. “Vučić is showing Brussels his pro-European stance, which is confirmed by his readiness to transfer weapons to Europe, which could use them to support Kyiv. Thus, Brnabić’s visit to Kyiv signals Serbia’s full loyalty to the European Union and NATO, which contradicts Vučić’s previously stated position of Russia as a friend and ally,” Pshenichnikov concluded.
Earlier SM-NEWS reported that Vučić once again called European integration a strategic goal of Serbia.
