      In the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, stadiums have begun to be prepared for the opening of the mass skating season. The first rink was flooded at the Raketa stadium. Its preparation required more than 3,000 cubic meters of water. The first mass skating sessions at the stadium will start on November 22.

      At the first stage of flooding, refrigeration units are switched on to freeze the base of the field. Two such units were required for the Raketa stadium — each with a capacity of 1 GW.

      Initially, cold water is poured to build up a rough layer of ice 3–4 cm thick over the stadium surface. Specialists evenly flood the field using hoses. After a stable ice surface appears, special equipment — the "Olimpiya" ice-resurfacing combines — are put into operation. Two such machines are used for the Raketa stadium. They level the ice surface and build up the covering. Pouring the ice requires about 3–4 thousand cubic meters of water.

      As reported by the Committee of Physical Culture and Sports, the rink will be ready as early as Thursday, November 13. On that day training sessions will begin: first young hockey players will take to the new ice, followed by adult athletes.

      Regular mass skating at the Raketa stadium will start on November 22.

      Recall that this coming winter Kazan will organize more than a hundred places for skating: hockey rinks, ice palaces and outdoor rinks. Today seven sites in the city are already open for mass skating, including the ice arenas in the sports complexes Triumph, Vatan, Golden Puck, Basko, Yudino, Forward and Zilant.
