In Kazan a 56-year-old resident became the victim of fraudsters and lost 800,000 rubles. The deception began with an offer to replace meters.
According to law enforcement agencies, the woman received a call in a messenger from an unknown person who convinced her of the need for an urgent replacement of metering devices. To confirm the operation the scammer asked her to dictate the code from an SMS message. As soon as the victim gave the combination of digits, the perpetrator gained access to her personal account on the Gosuslugi portal.
After that, fake bank employees and representatives of law enforcement began contacting the woman. They claimed that fraudsters, having gained access to her account, were trying to steal her personal savings. To “save” the money, the scammers convinced the Kazan resident to hand over all her savings through a courier.
At their instruction the woman gave the intermediary 800,000 rubles. Only after that did she realize she had been deceived.
A criminal case has been opened on the fact under the article “Fraud.” Police officers strongly urge citizens to be vigilant: never disclose SMS codes and do not transfer savings to third parties, even if the callers claim to be bank employees or government agencies.
