KIU students mastered the techniques for successful grant applications.
How to successfully apply for a grant and obtain funding for your social project? Students at KIU received answers to these questions at a special seminar with a federal expert.
On November 14, a practical seminar on social project design was held at KIU named after V. G. Timiryasov. The event was organized by the Center for Support of Project Activities with the support of the Department for Youth Work of KIU named after V. G. Timiryasov and the ANO “Tatarstan — Territory of Opportunities.”
The seminar gathered about 50 people — students engaged in social projects as well as their mentors. Listeners from the university’s branches also joined the seminar via online broadcast.
The training event was devoted to the technologies of applying for grants from Rosmolodezh and the specifics of working with the FGAIS “Youth of Russia.” The invited expert was Inessa Vladislavovna Fedulova, expert at Rosmolodezh.Grants, head of the youth affairs department at KGMU.
The event was opened by the deputy head of the Center for Support of Project Activities at KIU, Natalia Vladimirovna Utkina, who emphasized the university’s focus on developing students’ culture of socially responsible project thinking. Natalia Vladimirovna reminded attendees that, specifically to improve the quality of student training through the active introduction of project-oriented learning into the curriculum and to support student initiatives, the Center for Support of Students’ Project Activities was established at KIU named after V. G. Timiryasov in September 2024.
Anna Mikhailovna Safiullina, head of the social work and projects department of the Department for Youth Work at KIU and curator of the university’s volunteer organization “From a Pure Heart,” addressed the seminar participants with welcoming remarks, noting the high potential of KIU’s student community and the university’s commitment to comprehensive support for socially significant initiatives.
During the seminar, participants examined what constitutes a project and studied the algorithm for working with the FGAIS “Youth of Russia” system. Inessa Vladislavovna step-by-step explained the procedure for submitting an application to the “Rosmolodezh.Grants” competition and spoke about the subtleties of expert evaluation of applications and the key criteria that members of the competition committee pay attention to first. Special attention was paid to analyzing common mistakes that applicants make when preparing grant applications. At the end, seminar participants received comprehensive answers to all their questions.
Students shared their impressions of the seminar:
Darina Savkina, majoring in Tourism (Faculty of Hospitality and Design):
- I attended such a seminar for the first time; I enjoyed listening to the expert. The seminar on Rosmolodezh grants was very useful. The main thing I understood is how to turn my idea into an application that will appeal to experts. It turned out to be important to show not so much creativity as concrete figures, real benefits to society, and a clear action plan. We were also shown examples of the most common mistakes made when submitting an application on the “Youth of Russia” platform, which will help avoid unnecessary problems. I will immediately apply this knowledge to improve my project. Now I clearly understand that I need to rewrite the goals more clearly and detail all stages of the work. The main takeaway for me: a grant is not just asking for money, but proposing a partnership to solve an important socially significant problem. I will now prepare my application with that idea in mind.
Emilia Yakupova, majoring in Special Defectological Education, profile Speech Therapy (Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogy):
- The seminar turned out to be very useful and informative. I gained a lot of new knowledge and discovered interesting ideas that I can now use. The most valuable insight for me was a clear understanding of the difference between personal use of funds and wisely investing in the development of your own project. Previously I perceived a grant as personal financial support, but now I realize how important it is to direct these funds specifically toward implementing your idea.
At the end of the seminar, many participants stayed to receive individual consultations on their project ideas, which indicates a high level of interest and a readiness not just to obtain funding but to create projects with a real social impact. As Inessa Vladislavovna noted, the questions asked by students and young professionals reflected a deep understanding of the complexity and responsibility of the process: from correctly preparing the application to strategically planning project implementation.
The seminar was an important step in improving the project literacy of KIU students. The knowledge and skills acquired open up new opportunities for the university’s active youth to implement their most ambitious socially significant initiatives.
