As Marat Akhmetov, Deputy Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan and Chairman of the Commission under the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan for the Preservation and Development of the Tatar Language and the Languages of the Peoples Living in the Republic of Tatarstan, said in his speech, support will be provided for the making of the film.

      “Tufan Minnullin, alongside being a writer, was also an artist who lived a restless, searching life. The words of the chief director of the Kamal Theatre, Marsel Salimzhanov, come to mind: ‘If not for Tufan – the Tatar theatre would be an orphan.’ Our Commission for the preservation of languages, with the aim of perpetuating Tufan aga’s work, a couple of years ago produced a full-length animated film based on his play ‘Almandar from the village of Aldermesh.’ If there are directors and screenwriters in Tatarstan who feel bold enough to make a feature film based on the biography of Tufan Minnullin, we, on behalf of the Commission, are ready to accept an appeal and carry this out,” Akhmetov said.

      He also noted that “The Old Man from the village of Aldermesh” is a philosophical work necessary for the upbringing of the younger generation. The head of the Commission recalled that, together with the Teleradiocompany “Tatarstan–New Century,” work is being completed on a 16-episode TV series based on Tufan Minnullin’s work “Ay bulmasa, yoldyz bar” (“If there is no moon, there is a star”). The series is planned for release at the end of the year; it also includes a portrayal of Tufan Minnullin, he noted.

      “Tufan Minnullin loved his people very much, and the people made him great — their son. There are words about him from the Rais of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov: ‘Every sentence spoken by Tufan abi is like the content of an entire book.’ At events and meetings in which he participated, when serious issues were under consideration, we awaited what Tufan abi would say. He truly expressed his opinion boldly and was able to speak about things that others do not like,” he said.

      At the close of the evening, State Council deputy of Tatarstan and chairman of the Union of Writers of the Republic of Tatarstan Rkail Zaydulla spoke and presented a bouquet of flowers to Tufan Minnullin’s daughter.
