Major All-Russian athletics competitions will be held in Kazan.

      This week Kazan will host the annual All-Russian track and field competitions in memory of Honored Coach of Russia Y.M. Krasilnikov. Today, on this occasion, an open press conference was held with the event organizers and participants in the building of JSC Tatmedia.

      This year the competition will feature the smallest number of athletes (1,025 people) compared with last year (1,450), because the organizers raised the required sports classifications. While last year athletes with the third adult rank were allowed, this year participation is limited to those with no less than the second rank. This was done primarily to increase the prestige of the event.

      Over five days 75 sets of medals will be contested. Also, athletes from other countries — from Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan — will take part out of competition. The Republic of Tatarstan will be represented by 165 athletes.

      The competitions will traditionally be held in 13 main disciplines: running in the 60 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 1500 m and 3000 m, and the 60 m hurdles. There will also be contests in mixed relays (4x200), long jump and high jump, triple jump, pole vault and shot put.

      Among the main stars of the competition are multiple medalists of various championships, products of the Kazan school — Yuliana Feshchenko and Tamerlan Ulyukaev. Feshchenko plans to compete in the final of the 60 m hurdles and in the shot put. Ulyukaev will also compete in the 60 m hurdles and the long jump.

      In addition, this time some participants will have distinctive colored bibs. Last year’s record-holders will wear gold bibs, and the winners red ones. Note that this year’s record-holders, in addition to the standard diploma and statuette, will receive cash prizes.

      At the end of the second day of the competition, guests and athletes will be treated to a big disco, at which a trial version of a phygital discipline across five track and field events will be presented for the first time. Anyone wishing will be able to try themselves on the track and in interactive reality. If this innovation appeals to those present, the organizers do not rule out holding an athletics tournament in a phygital format. By the way, Yuliana Feshchenko and Tamerlan Ulyukaev, who were present, have already expressed interest in trying the new, unexplored discipline.

      Also expected at the Kazan track and field competitions as honored guests are Olympic champions Gulnara Samitova-Galkina and Anna Chicherova.

      The Krasilnikov Y.M. memorial track and field competitions will be held in Kazan in the indoor arena of the Central Stadium from November 19 to 23.
