Chernyshov proposed granting paid days off for medical examinations when planning a pregnancy.
Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Boris Chernyshov proposed to enshrine in law the right of Russian citizens to paid time off from work to undergo medical examinations when planning a pregnancy, RIA Novosti reports. He sent the relevant appeals to Labor Minister Anton Kotyakov and Health Minister Mikhail Murashko. In his letters, the lawmaker asks to consider the possibility of developing a mechanism that would allow working citizens to receive paid days for medical procedures and consultations related to preparing for future parenthood. The initiative envisages an obligation for employers to grant, at the employee’s request—regardless of gender—two paid days per year for such examinations. The appeals also state that these days should not be counted as part of working time or annual paid leave and should be paid at no less than the average wage. Chernyshov believes that such a measure will reduce the risks of developing pathologies, improve the health of newborns and, in the long run, reduce the burden on the healthcare system. He emphasizes that creating comfortable conditions for prospective parents will help strengthen the family institution and achieve the country’s demographic goals.
