Police detained the robbers who had robbed an office and a jewelry workshop in Kazan.

      Five citizens of countries from the near abroad were detained by police for a series of nighttime thefts in Kazan and Ryazan from August to October. The total damage is estimated at approximately 15 million rubles, says the official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry, Irina Volk.

      In Kazan the criminals took a metal safe with 2.5 million rubles from an office and stole 230 pieces of jewelry from a jewelry workshop worth more than 5 million rubles.

      In Ryazan they stole jewelry from a store worth over 3 million rubles and took cash and valuables from residents' apartments totaling about 4 million rubles.

      The suspects were detained in the Moscow region. Three of them had previously been prosecuted for similar crimes. Searches turned up cash, jewelry, smartphones and a car.

      Criminal cases on charges of "theft" have been opened against the detainees. All of them have been remanded in custody, the investigation continues.
