Employees of Tatarstan Customs thwarted an attempt to illegally import a large consignment of fasteners. The incident occurred at Kazan Airport, where a passenger arrived on a flight from Istanbul.
As Tatar-inform was told by the agency's press service, during customs control a 50-year-old foreign national chose the "green corridor," intended for persons who have no goods to declare. However, during a random inspection inspectors discovered numerous metal items in his luggage.
A search of the suitcase revealed 726 fastening elements – nuts, bolts and other items.
During questioning by customs officers the man explained that the fasteners did not belong to him. According to him, he was bringing the fasteners at the request of acquaintances and was supposed to hand them over to a person meeting him right at the airport.
An administrative offense case has been opened under the article “Failure to declare goods in the prescribed form.”
