Latvia has banned publishing photos and videos of top officials without justification.
Administrative and criminal sanctions are provided for violating the ban
A ban on publishing images of the country's top officials on the internet has come into force in Latvia. Now an objective reason is required to post photos and videos of President Edgars Rinkēvičs, Prime Minister Evika Siliņa and other government representatives.
According to the Latvian Bureau for Human Rights, the innovation is linked to the frequent appearance of such materials online without sufficient grounds. Authorities believe that recently these publications have become too widespread.
Administrative fines are provided for violating the ban. In serious cases, criminal penalties are possible.
