Trump announced large-scale cuts to federal employees in the U.S.

      The number of U.S. government employees has reached its lowest level since 2014

      U.S. President Donald Trump announced a significant reduction in the number of federal employees. According to him, since the start of his second term the number of American government workers has decreased by more than a quarter of a million people.

      Trump called this trend "important news" and shared the information on his social network Truth Social. He attached a screenshot of a post from the administration's official account. According to the publication of December 16, the number of people working for the U.S. government is now at its lowest level since 2014. Since January 2025, when Trump took office, it has declined by 271,000 people.

      In November the American leader noted that hundreds of thousands of civil servants are being cut as part of a plan to move the workforce into the private sector.

      Trump also claimed that under his predecessor Joe Biden the federal government staff expanded — every fourth new job in the U.S. appeared in the public sector.
