About 92% of participants reported that they have no difficulty using the word “thank you” in everyday communication. In addition, 81% of respondents indicated that it is customary in their families to thank one another. At the same time, perceptions of politeness levels vary by city. In Saint Petersburg more than half of those surveyed consider the culture of communication to be above the national average. In Moscow the majority of study participants reported that they express gratitude even for minor help. Russians most often thank couriers, colleagues at work and people who hold doors open.

      The study was conducted in December 2025. It included 3,516 residents of 16 cities with populations of over one million.
