      Now any user of the Gosuslugi portal can check whether a person is listed among persistent alimony defaulters.

      A new publicly accessible service has appeared on the Unified Portal of State Services — the federal register of persistent alimony defaulters. Any user can check someone of interest for free to find out whether they have outstanding obligations to support children or parents. To perform a check you only need to know the person’s surname, first name, patronymic and date of birth. No additional authorization or entry of passport data by the person conducting the check is required. It is enough to simply go to the relevant section on the website or in the Gosuslugi mobile app.

      It is important to note that not everyone who has a debt is included in this register — only persistent defaulters. These are citizens who have already been subjected to administrative or even criminal liability for non‑payment of alimony, as well as those whom bailiffs have declared wanted for evasion of obligations.

      The creation of such an open register pursues two main goals. First, it allows people, for example when entering into major transactions or relationships, to assess the financial trustworthiness of a partner. Second, the prospect of ending up on a public list may serve as an additional incentive for debtors to settle their debts to their family in order to have their name removed from the register.
