A 77-year-old resident of Kazan was contacted by phone scammers. Falling for their deception, the pensioner sold her apartment and handed over all her savings to the fraudsters.

A criminal case has been initiated in Kazan for large-scale fraud, of which the victim was a 77-year-old pensioner. According to the investigation, the total amount of damage amounted to 9.5 million rubles, including funds from the sale of her apartment. According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazan, the incident began with a phone call from an unknown person who offered to replace the intercom. The criminal convinced the woman to dictate the code from an SMS, explaining that it was necessary for "reprogramming the keys." Soon after, the pensioner began receiving calls from alleged representatives of various official structures. The scammers, posing as employees of various agencies, frightened the pensioner with information that someone was allegedly trying to issue a power of attorney in her name. Under the pretext of "protecting savings," they organized the transfer of cash through a courier. Initially, the woman handed over more than 2 million rubles of her own savings. This scheme did not end there. The criminals managed to convince the pensioner to sell her apartment to "secure" a large sum of money. As a result, she lost another 7.5 million rubles from this transaction. The total damage reached 9.5 million rubles. A criminal case has been initiated on the fact of the incident under the article "Fraud." Law enforcement agencies are conducting operational search activities to identify and detain the suspects. The police strongly urge citizens to be vigilant, not to trust strangers over the phone, and never to disclose codes from SMS messages.
