Kazan has begun implementing a pilot project for payment of transport services via QR code. It is known that this innovation will affect buses operating on routes No. 62, 72, and 34.
Kazan has taken a new step towards the digitalization of public transport. A fundamentally new payment method has started working on several city routes – through the mobile application "Transport Card of Kazan and RT." To use the service, passengers need to follow a few simple steps: install the application on their smartphone and link a bank card. While on the bus, they need to press the "Payment" button, scan the QR code or use geolocation, then confirm the payment and show the electronic ticket to the controller, reports "Real Time." A feature of the new system is the automatic route detection function via geolocation, which simplifies the payment process. As reported by the transport committee of the city administration, the pilot project has been launched only on three routes – No. 34, 62, and 72. This will allow testing the technology before large-scale implementation throughout the city. As previously reported, Kazan passengers are facing a significant increase in public transport fares. Carriers have sent an official proposal to the State Committee of the Republic of Tatarstan on tariffs to raise the cost of a single trip to 49 rubles. It is worth noting that in 2024, Kazan carriers had already requested to raise the price to 45 rubles, but the state committee approved the tariff at 2 rubles lower.
