How small business is growing in Tatarstan: fresh statistics and support measures for 2026

      In 2026, the number of SMEs in Tatarstan reached 185.5 thousand. The business climate in Tatarstan shows positive dynamics: as of the beginning of 2026, there are already 185.5 thousand entities of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) registered in the republic. This is 4% more than in the same period last year. A particularly noticeable growth is observed among individual entrepreneurs (IEs) and self-employed citizens. The number of IEs increased by 7%, while the number of officially registered self-employed individuals grew by more than 16%, reaching 447 thousand people. Thanks to these indicators, Tatarstan strengthens its position as a leader in the Volga Federal District in terms of the number of SMEs, concentrating 16% of all small and medium-sized businesses in the macroregion. In the nationwide ranking, the republic consistently ranks in the top six regions, while over 6.8 million entrepreneurs are registered across the country. The most popular areas of activity among Tatarstan entrepreneurs remain trade, freight transportation services, construction, scientific and technical developments, and manufacturing. To stimulate further business activity in the region, a comprehensive set of state support measures is in place, implemented within the framework of the national project "Effective and Competitive Economy." According to the relevant department, in 2025 alone, businesses received preferential financing exceeding 3.5 billion rubles through republican programs. These funds were directed towards attracting investments and expanding production capacities. The Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Tatarstan, together with its subordinate organizations, provides comprehensive assistance to SMEs through various instruments: microloans on preferential terms, equipment leasing programs, and guarantees. In addition to financial assistance, small and medium-sized businesses in the republic can take advantage of a wide range of non-financial services.
