Criminals are studying the purchase history of Russians to deceive them.
Fraudsters are hacking citizens' accounts on marketplaces and specialized online platforms, studying purchase histories, and then posing as sellers to offer similar products at attractive prices, ultimately stealing money. This was reported to RIA Novosti by "MTS Defender." According to analysts, criminals gain access to users' accounts on trading or specialized platforms. After studying browsing and purchase histories, they call potential victims, pretending to be private sellers or employees of small shops, and offer exactly the product the user recently searched for, but at a price significantly lower than the market price. Then, the fraudsters send a link for prepayment that leads to a phishing site. Experts note that the scheme is dangerous due to its personalized nature: the person receives a call not with an abstract offer, but with a product they recently searched for. This removes the barrier of distrust, the victim loses vigilance, and thinks they are lucky to find the desired item at an affordable price. The company emphasized that real sellers on marketplaces or from small companies do not discuss advantageous offers over the phone and do not send payment links outside official platforms. Experts advise conducting any such transactions only within verified trading platforms, without moving to external resources. In case of a suspicious situation, one should not provide personal information, click on links, or continue the dialogue, and it is advisable to verify information about the product and seller through official sources.
