Tea with a Hazrat: how to protect oneself from the devil and can a jinn possess a person
Imam explained how to protect oneself from shaytan and jinn
"Before human civilization, there was a civilization of jinn in this world"
– Rustam Hazrat, does Islam acknowledge the existence of unclean forces? – Of course, Islam acknowledges the otherworldly realm, and the Almighty Himself even says that He created everything, including parallel civilizations. We watch movies together, we watch children's cartoons, where a person dies, leaves this world, and their soul wanders there. In this case, Islam interprets it differently. When a person's last moment comes, angels come for their soul, and you cannot escape from the angels, you cannot wander. If they have unfinished business, Islam says: if we did not complete our affairs in this world, we will stand before the Almighty and be held accountable for those unfinished matters. – Who is shaytan? Who is jinn? And what is the difference between them? – If we look at it historically, the Quran describes this. Before human civilization, there was another civilization – the civilization of jinn. And among the jinn, there were those who believed and those who did not believe. Those who did not believe and committed all sorts of wickedness were called shaytans, led by the chief shaytan – Iblis. Iblis is a jinn, but not every jinn is a shaytan. Among the jinn, there are believers, and among the jinn, there are shaytans.
"There is a helper for shaytan – our ego"
– How does shaytan influence a person? – Of course, shaytan cannot force us to do something bad. He can only advise us, suggest that we can do this or that, or we can choose not to do it. For example, we plan to visit our parents, feed them, take care of them, dig the garden, or do something else. And then shaytan whispers in our ear: "What are you doing? You already have so much work, let's do it later. Next week, you can go." And the person then chooses for themselves whether to do it or not, to commit or not to commit. Therefore, there is even a saying that on the Day of Judgment, when the Almighty asks: "Why did you, O human, commit wickedness?" Then he will say: "O Allah, I am not guilty, shaytan made me do it." And Allah will then raise shaytan. And shaytan will say: "O Allah, I only advised him, he chose for himself." There is a saying from the Prophet that shaytan flows through our veins like blood, that he is very close to us. He has a helper – our ego, our nafs, which always plays into the hands of shaytan. And therefore, shaytan fully utilizes our ego, and he is always near us. So may the Almighty always protect us from the whispers of the devil. – Is it possible to get rid of shaytan or minimize his influence? – Our beloved Prophet Muhammad taught us that Allah has given us certain tools through which shaytan does not approach us. The first is the verse "al-Kursi." Remember, even our mothers and grandmothers always hung the verse "al-Kursi" above the door. We continue this tradition now, but often without knowing the meaning of why they hung it above the entrance door. The Prophet said that whoever leaves the house reciting this verse, until they return home, Allah gives them another guardian angel who will protect them from demons, from shaytans, from the devil himself, and they will return home with goodness. Secondly, there were cases when, for example, the Prophet was affected by sihr (sorcery), which also comes through shaytans. And then Allah revealed three surahs: "al-Ikhlas," "al-Falaq," and "an-Nas." And when the Prophet began to recite them, that evil never touched him again. Therefore, we should often recite these surahs when leaving the house, starting any work, or going to sleep. In this case, unfortunately, we can harm ourselves. So if we see that our children or we ourselves are doing something well, just say: "Subhanallah" or "Alhamdulillah." – How to protect oneself from shaytan in sleep? – Sometimes we toss and turn for a long time, unable to sleep, or we keep waking up. In this case, first of all, we need to pay attention to ritual purity – taharah. Before sleeping, we should wash ourselves completely, after which we lie on our right side and recite the verse "al-Kursi," recite "al-Ikhlas," "al-Falaq," "an-Nas," and thus Allah protects us, gives us additional angels who guard us, and then even in sleep, shaytan will not come.
"Jinn can possess people"
– Can a jinn possess a person, and is it really possible to expel it, and is such practice common among us? – Yes, unfortunately, jinn can possess people. This does not happen just like that. For example, someone decided to harm another person and turned to those who use the services of jinn. Or a person was very frightened. Or a person frequents unclean places where many such jinn reside. Yes, there are expulsion rituals when we recite prayers for that demon, that jinn to leave the person. But one should not immediately dig into oneself and look for a jinn. If I am not succeeding – maybe there is a jinn in me. In this case, there can also be illnesses. There can be psychological illnesses in a person. Of course, we should first turn to doctors for examination, and consult imams who would also agree with the doctors that there is no jinn.
– What signs can indicate that a jinn has possessed a person? – A person who has always been calm and balanced suddenly becomes angry over trivial matters, everything irritates them, they shout, and are nervous. This is one of the first signs.
"There are unclean places where jinn live – the toilet and bath"
– Can a jinn harm a person? – There are unclean places where jinn live – the toilet and bath. And that is why the Prophet said that when entering these places, we should recite certain prayers. There is a special prayer that can easily be found on the internet: "O Almighty, I ask You for protection from the two types of jinn that reside in the toilet and bath." And when we repeat these words and enter unclean places with our left foot, the jinn leave from there.
It should be understood that jinn have their own affairs, and they usually do not care about us. So from this side, do not worry at all. But when entering the bath or toilet with the left foot, recite this prayer.
