The square in front of the Butlerov monument will be improved in Kazan.

      The area of parks and squares in Kazan has increased fivefold over the past 15 years. Now, residents have access to 627 hectares of green spaces. Every year, the authorities take on new territories. This year, five public spaces will be improved, the city hall's press service reported. Thus, this year, the square in front of the Butlerov monument on Pushkin Street will be renovated. Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin noted that it essentially serves as the entrance to Lenin Garden. Nearby are Kazan Federal University and the Zhiganov Conservatory. Order has already been established in the neighboring "Black Lake" park. The mayor called for continued work to please the residents and guests of the capital.

      Currently, the area is not used as a recreation zone but as a transit space. There is a lack of greenery and places to relax. Cars parked in the square hinder pedestrians and create emergency situations. The improvement project addresses these issues.

      Fifteen large trees and over 800 shrubs will be planted in the square. They will be placed, among other locations, between Pushkin Street and the Butlerov monument. Lawns with automatic irrigation will be arranged. An information stand dedicated to Butlerov will be installed. Small architectural forms will appear – over 50 elements for relaxation. Surveillance cameras and modern lighting will also be installed. Lanterns, decorative lighting for the trees and the monument itself will beautify the space.

      Alexey Gorbunov, director of the Kazan Development Institute, explained that the area is characterized by high intensity of vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The priority task is to create a comfortable environment for pedestrians without compromising transport accessibility. A change in the traffic scheme is planned. The exit from Nuzhina Street to Pushkin will be expanded and used for traffic heading up to Uniks. Downward movement on Nuzhina will be prohibited. The road will become one-way. This will reduce congestion on Nuzhina and near Uniks.

      The square is also set to have its surface replaced. Granite work will be carried out on ramps and stairs. Architects relied on the experience of reconstructing the entrance to Gorky Park, which was completed in 2023. Work will begin with the dismantling of the old paving and the relocation of utilities.

      Aigul Latypova, head of the parks and squares directorate, noted that many cars pass along Pushkin Street. It would be good for this place to look more presentable. After the improvement, the area will not only serve as a convenient entrance to the park but also as an independent attraction. The inspection also involved Igor Kulyazhev, deputy head of the executive committee, Albert Salikhov, head of the Vakhitovsky and Privolzhsky districts, and other officials.
