This year, 24 historical buildings will be restored in Kazan – in 2025, 2.5 billion will be allocated for the work.
This year, permits for work have been granted for 24 buildings — cultural heritage sites. Of these, 12 are carried over from last year. This was reported by the head of the Vakhitovsky and Privolzhsky districts, Albert Salikhov, during the business Monday meeting. Last year, work was carried out on 39 sites for a total of 2.5 billion rubles. In 2026, the restoration of the building of the State Tariff Committee on Karl Marx Street, 66, will begin for the first time. "Here, in August 1918, the defense headquarters against the White interventionists operated. As part of the restoration, the facade will be put in order, the foundation will be strengthened, and engineering systems will be replaced. The work is planned to be completed by the autumn of 2027," Salikhov clarified. The reconstruction of the Krestovnikov brothers' factory (built in 1853) continues. An archaeological park is planned to be placed here: the found antiquities will be stored in transparent safes so that they can be seen without compromising their fragility. The inner courtyard will be covered with a glass roof, and the space will combine museum areas, a spa, restaurants, and apartments. According to the district head, work is also underway at the A. Alisha Children's Creativity House: after the completion of the first phase of emergency work, the ceilings will need to be reinforced, the facade restored, and lost decorative details recreated. The update is also ongoing in the former "Adonis" factory building. Part of the inner courtyard will be opened to the public this year — events, workshops, lectures, and forums will be held there. The restoration of the Eastern Club from the late 19th century on Ostrovsky Street, 10, where the Young Spectator Theater is currently located, continues. Work is being carried out both in the building itself and in the inner courtyard. Restoration is also underway at the Noble Assembly Hotel on Rakhmatullin Street, 6, where Pushkin and Shalyapin stayed. Most of the emergency measures are already behind, the facade restoration project has been approved, and a project for adaptation is being developed in parallel, Salikhov noted. Nearby is the Sapugoltsov estate (Rakhmatullin, 8/11). Part of the buildings was put into operation back in February 2025, and work on the main house is nearing completion. The Piskunov House (built in 1841, architect Thomas Petondi) on Profsoyuznaya Street is also being restored. Emergency work on houses 7 and 9 has been completed, and the development and approval of their restoration concepts is currently underway. The house on Musa Jalil, 16, where Nikolai Bauman was born and lived, is also being updated. The overall completion date for the restoration of all sites is 2028. As Salikhov noted, last year work was carried out on 39 cultural heritage sites. Emergency work was completed on 17 of them, and the next stages of restoration were completed on 14. Eight unique buildings were completely "brought back to life" — reconstruction is finished. The total funding exceeded 2.5 billion rubles, more than half of which came from investors. Since 2012, 170 cultural heritage sites have been renovated in Kazan. Since 2020, their number in the registry has increased by 38. According to Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin, the Vakhitovsky district is home to 956 protected sites, including 122 federal ones — this is every fourth monument in Tatarstan. "The main thing is to preserve the authenticity of the monuments and find a worthy application for them," he emphasized.
