      Honorary Chairman of the State Council Farid Mukhametshin has been awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen of Kazan." This became known today during the VII session of the Kazan City Duma. The corresponding initiative was proposed by the Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin. The life and work of Honorary Chairman of the State Council Farid Mukhametshin are inextricably linked to the development of Tatarstan and its capital. He has headed the State Council of Tatarstan for over 30 years. "Farid Mukhametshin began his professional career early and went through all levels of professional growth – from working specialties at a factory to high government positions, earning recognition as an experienced and wise leader who dedicated his life to serving his native land," emphasized Ilsur Metshin. Farid Mukhametshin headed the highest legislative body of the republic – the Supreme Council in 1991, and from 1995 to 1998, he served as the Prime Minister of the republic. "In a pivotal period for the entire country, Farid Khairullovich proved himself to be a far-sighted politician capable of finding a balance between the interests of the republic and the federal center. He actively participated in the most significant events in the history of Tatarstan, which largely determined the development of the republic," said the city's mayor. Farid Mukhametshin played a significant role in forming the legal framework for the sovereignty of the Republic of Tatarstan, including the preparation and conduct of the 1992 referendum on the status of the region. As Prime Minister, he ensured economic stabilization during the period of market reforms, defending the interests of the republic during the privatization of large enterprises. Farid Mukhametshin took over the State Council in 1998. During his leadership, the republic became one of the leaders in the number of initiatives, 18 of which were adopted at the federal level. Under his supervision, programs for the elimination of dilapidated housing, reconstruction of the historical center of Kazan, construction of schools and kindergartens were implemented, infrastructure and road management were developed, small and medium-sized businesses were supported, and healthcare and education systems were improved. The main part of Farid Mukhametshin's work as Chairman of the State Council has been international cooperation and support for compatriots abroad. "The state activity of Farid Khairullovich has become an embodiment of the principles of responsibility, wisdom, and service to the people, leaving an indelible mark in the history of the Republic of Tatarstan.
