In Kazan, activists unfurled a huge George ribbon measuring 300 meters long.
The ceremony for the deployment of the longest George ribbon in Russia took place today on the Kremlin embankment near the extreme park "URAM." The event marked the start of the annual All-Russian campaign "George Ribbon" in the Republic of Tatarstan. More than 600 people participated in the campaign. Activists from the Tatarstan regional branch of the All-Russian public organization "Young Guard of United Russia," students from higher and secondary specialized educational institutions in Kazan, schoolchildren, representatives of public organizations, and local residents were involved in the deployment of the 300-meter ribbon.
As reported by Ruslan Shigabutdinov, a deputy of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan and head of the regional branch of the Young Guard, the event is symbolic and precedes the mass distribution of ribbons to the public. "Today, April 22, the All-Russian campaign 'George Ribbon' kicks off across the country. In Kazan, we are deploying a ribbon that is 300 meters long. Starting tomorrow, we will begin the daily distribution of ribbons on the central streets of the city and in the municipal districts of the republic. Key locations are planned to be involved: Bauman Street, the embankment, parks, and squares," Shigabutdinov specified.
He emphasized that the campaign is primarily aimed at the youth audience. "We want to contribute as much as possible to ensuring that the younger generation understands and appreciates the importance of this symbol of Victory," he stated. "It is very important for us to remember what the Great Patriotic War meant for the country—a war that affected every resident and still resonates today, as everyone had grandfathers or great-grandfathers who participated in the hostilities. The George ribbon, as the main symbol of Victory, is a symbol that the youth and the residents honor in the run-up to May 9. We always wear it close to our hearts and pay tribute and respect to our ancestors," Shigabutdinov noted, speaking about the significance of the George ribbon.
Among the participants was second-year student Timur. He told "Tatar-inform" that he decided to participate in the campaign because of his relatives who experienced the Great Patriotic War. "Both of my great-grandfathers fought: one made it to Berlin, the other went missing. Participating in the deployment of a ribbon of such scale allows one to appreciate the significance of this symbol from another perspective. For me, it is a reason to remind myself and my friends of the events of those years," the student explained.
He added that he came to the event with a group of classmates on his own initiative. The organizers of the campaign were the Tatarstan regional branch of the "Young Guard of United Russia" in collaboration with the Committee for Children and Youth Affairs of the Executive Committee of Kazan, with the support of the regional branch of the "United Russia" party. The All-Russian campaign "George Ribbon" will continue in the territory of the Russian Federation until May 9, 2026. During this period, volunteers will distribute ribbons as a symbol of remembrance of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
