The chairman of the Republic of Tatarstan Committee for the Protection of Cultural Heritage commented on the flooding of the approaches to the memorial church on the Kazanka River.

      The flooding of the approaches to the memorial temple on the Kazanka River does not pose a threat to the cultural heritage site itself, reported Ivan Gushchin, chairman of the Committee of the Republic of Tatarstan for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites. As the head of the relevant agency explained, during the spring flood period, the water level in the Kazanka traditionally rises, causing the approaches to the memorial temple to be flooded. According to him, this is an annual natural phenomenon associated with the active melting of snow. Ivan Gushchin noted that during the restoration of the memorial temple, project solutions were provided that fully take into account the hydrological regime of the Kazanka River. He specified that the normal water level of the Kuibyshev Reservoir is 53.00 meters according to the Baltic height system. Meanwhile, the top of the sheet pile wall installed to protect the temple from waves and flooding is at a height of 53.65 meters, and the bridge and landscaped area are even higher — at a level of 53.90 meters. Ivan Gushchin also reminded that large-scale repair and restoration work was completed at the site in 2024-2025. As part of this work, the shoreline was reinforced, sheet piles were driven in, and a hydrological protection system was established. "These engineering solutions were aimed at protecting the monument from the effects of the aquatic environment and flood phenomena," he explained. The Committee of the Republic of Tatarstan for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites continues to monitor the situation.
