Cities of the Republic of Tatarstan are preparing on a large scale to celebrate the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, but this year the festive programs will differ depending on the municipality – primarily due to security considerations.
The solemn events in Kazan will begin on May 1 with a flower-laying ceremony at the "Kazan – City of Labor Valor" stele, and on May 8, military vehicles and retro cars will parade through the streets of the city as part of the annual "Parade at the Veteran's Home" campaign. Also, on the eve of the holiday, the opening of a monument to the Soviet scientist, one of the creators of the "friend or foe" identification system, Ildus Mostyukov, is planned, notes RBC. The holiday for residents and guests of Kazan On the morning of May 9, flower-laying ceremonies will take place at the Arkhangelsk and Arsk cemeteries, in Victory Park at the Eternal Flame, at the monuments to the Workers of the Rear, Mothers and Widows, as well as at the monument to the Soviet Soldier. At 10 a.m., a parade of the Kazan garrison troops is scheduled to begin at Millennium Square, followed by a theatrical procession featuring artists reflecting the contribution of the multinational people of Tatarstan to the victory over fascism. As noted by the deputy head of the Kazan executive committee, Azat Abzalov, attendees will need to undergo security checks, and for convenience, residents are better off leaving scooters, bicycles, large bags, and pets at home. Then, starting at 3 p.m., the "Immortal Regiment" procession will proceed along the central streets of Kazan – Karl Marx, Lobachevsky, and Kremlin – with the final destination being Millennium Square. The city administration clarified that traffic along the route will be completely blocked during this time. In addition, a patriotic event "Waltz of Victory" will take place in the Kazan Kremlin, a memorial stand "Wall of Heroes" will be set up, a field kitchen will be deployed, and a master class on creating white cranes will be held. The evening program will begin at 6 p.m. with a concert by masters of arts and the combined choir of Kazan, and at 10 p.m., a festive fireworks display will light up over the Kazanka River, after which special public transport will be organized to the "Energy University" stop and to the area of the intersection of Tashayak and Said-Galiyev streets. Events for residents of Naberezhnye Chelny In Naberezhnye Chelny, the celebration will begin with a rally at the monument to Musa Jalil, after which at 10 a.m. a Victory Parade featuring equipment produced in the city for the Russian Armed Forces will take place on the boulevard of the same name. The parade will conclude with the laying of wreaths and flowers at the "Motherland Calls" memorial. A large-scale theatrical program "Glory Never Fades. Memory – Live!" will unfold in the "Pribrezhny" park, involving 3,000 people, including students, cadets, and creative teams. At 7 p.m., residents are invited to join the nationwide action "Minute of Silence," and the Victory Day in Chelny will conclude with a large concert, a laser show, and fireworks scheduled for 8:30 p.m. The celebration in Nizhnekamsk The celebration program in Nizhnekamsk will be no less eventful – over 300 events are planned throughout the city and district, which will take place at three key venues: near the Victory monument, at the House of Folk Art, and in the Lemaev Park. From May 5 to 8, as well as on Victory Day itself, traffic restrictions will be imposed on the roads from Sportivnaya Street to 50 Years of October Street. However, there will be no festive fireworks over Nizhnekamsk this year. It was previously reported that Kazan will host the Russia summit.
