The play "Babonki" at the GDK Mirny: women's fate during the war on stage

      In the run-up to May 9, a performance of "Babushki" — a touching play about the fate of women collective farmers during the Great Patriotic War — took place at the city cultural center in the Mirny microdistrict.

      Plot: two neighbors and a shared grief

      At the center of the production are two neighbors whose relationship was far from harmonious before the war. But when their husbands went to the front, the women had to take on all the male labor — both in the fields and at home. In the harsh war years, past grievances and disagreements faded in the face of shared sorrow. The war affected every family, and it was then that the incredible resilience and selflessness of ordinary collective farmers emerged. The play reveals the theme of the unyielding strength of spirit of women whose lives were forever changed by the war.

      Why the audience cried

      The actors — participants of the artistic amateur group of the cultural center — performed so sincerely and touchingly that they could not hold back tears even backstage. The audience also did not remain indifferent. Many left the theater with tear-filled eyes. The production makes one reflect on the price at which Victory was forged in the rear. About the women who plowed, sowed, raised children, and lost loved ones — but did not give up.

      Context and significance

      The event was held under the "Pushkin Card" program, which allowed young people to attend the performance for free. The showing was timed to the 81st anniversary of Victory and is part of the Year of Military and Labor Valor in the Republic of Tatarstan, as well as the Year of Patriotism and Unity in the Zainsk district.
