According to Tatarstanstat, as of the end of March 2026, there were 816.9 thousand heads of cattle in the farms of the republic. This is 4.6% less than a year earlier. The number of cows decreased by 0.3% (to 311.7 thousand), and sheep and goats decreased by 13.5% (to 265 thousand). At the same time, there was growth in other areas of animal husbandry: the number of pigs increased by 4.3% (501.4 thousand), and poultry by 1.8% (18.9 million heads). The Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Tatarstan, Marat Zyabbarov, noted that while the volume of milk production is increasing, there is an opposite trend in the number of cattle. The decrease over the year amounted to 9 thousand heads, and negative dynamics were recorded in 25 districts of the republic. The report also specifies that personal subsidiary farms account for 29.6% of all cattle, 81.1% of goats and sheep, 2.5% of pigs, and 8.8% of poultry.
