IN A WEEK IN THE ZAINSK DISTRICT: FRAUD WITH VPN, ROAD ACCIDENTS, TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS, AND THE ARREST OF A WANTED PERSON

      From May 11 to May 17, police and traffic police in the Zainsk municipal district registered a number of incidents. A total of 109 reports of crimes and incidents were received by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

      Traffic Accidents and Road Situation

      In the past week, the traffic police recorded 9 traffic accidents. Fortunately, there were no injuries as a result of the accidents. However, the report notes the death of two citizens (according to updated data — overall for the operational situation during the period). Traffic police officers stopped 61 violations of traffic rules. One driver was detained for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The traffic police remind that such violations remain one of the main causes of serious consequences on the roads.

      Internet Fraud: "VPN Trap"

      One of the most illustrative cases was a remote fraud that occurred on May 15. The victim of the criminals was a 41-year-old resident of Zainsk. The woman installed a VPN application after clicking on an unknown link. After that, the attackers gained access to her bank card and withdrew 26,800 rubles. A criminal case has been initiated, and an investigation is underway. The police emphasize that such schemes are becoming increasingly common: criminals disguise malicious links as popular applications and services.

      Attempts to Defraud through the "Pension Fund"

      On May 13 and 14, two more cases of attempted fraud were recorded. Citizens received calls from alleged employees of the Pension Fund offering "recalculation of payments." The criminals tried to convince the interlocutors to dictate codes from SMS messages. However, the residents remained vigilant, which helped avoid financial losses. No cases of money withdrawal were allowed. Law enforcement officials remind: no official body requests codes from SMS over the phone.

      Theft of Bicycles and Scooters

      With the onset of the warm season, there has been an increase in the theft of two-wheeled vehicles in the area. From April to May, the police received 3 reports of bicycle thefts and 3 reports of scooter thefts. On May 17, a scooter was stolen from the city stadium, where it was left by a young resident. The Ministry of Internal Affairs urges residents to observe safety measures: do not leave vehicles unattended, use anti-theft devices, and do not store bicycles in stairwells.

      Detention of a Wanted Person

      A positive result of the law enforcement agencies' work was the detention of a 38-year-old resident of the city who had been wanted for a long time under part 5 of Article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (desertion). The operation was carried out by criminal investigation officers on May 15.

      The Ministry of Internal Affairs notes that the main threats remain remote fraud, traffic violations, and seasonal property thefts. Residents of the district are advised to be more attentive, observe safety rules, and not trust suspicious internet resources and calls from unknown individuals.
